The International Journal of Alcoholics Anonymous
Grapevine Committee meetings are not only for Intergroup Reps, but for anyone interested in doing Grapevine service work. Sponsors, this is great service work for both new and experienced sponsees!
We would like to encourage all the AA groups in District 1 to consider having a Grapevine meeting once a week or so. It’s simple. Read a story from the monthly magazine or a “Best of the Grapevine” – volumes 1, 2 or 3. Share how you can relate to it. It’s a great way to spice up a meeting and get different stories from all over the world. They make good subject matter. All are informative, some are tragic, and some are even funny. I’ve never been to a boring Grapevine meeting.
As it says on the aagrapevine.org website, “The AA Grapevine is the international journal of Alcoholics Anonymous. Written, edited, illustrated, and read by AA members and others interested in the AA program of recovery from alcoholism, the Grapevine is a lifeline linking one alcoholic to another.
Founded in 1944, the Grapevine does not receive group contributions, but is supported entirely through magazine subscription sales and additional income derived from the sale of Grapevine items.
Here are some suggestions to help increase the sales of the magazine:
- Have a Grapevine meeting where you read a story and share on it.
- Buy a subscription for your sponsee – or sponsor!
- The group can give them as gifts to anniversary celebrants.
- How about a subscription as a holiday or birthday gift?
- Send them to your AA friends who have moved away.
Because The Grapevine does not accept group contributions, it is doubly important to support them by purchasing, books, group-related items, and by becoming a subscriber to the magazine.
In addition to the Grapevine magazine, they have many more products and continue to release new themed books. A few of the newest publications have to do with making amends, The Traditions, The Steps and many others. Check out their website to see a complete list of everything they have to offer.

RECYCLE YOUR GRAPEVINES!
We need all the old Grapevine magazines we can get. If they’re around a treatment center, someone will read it and possibly hit home with a story they can relate to. Many of these places don’t have the magazine within their budget and an old one is better than nothing.
You can give them to your Intergroup Rep to take to the monthly Intergroup meeting, drop them off at Central Office, or give them to a member of the Grapevine Committee.
