Grapevine
Committee meetings are not only for Intergroup Reps, but for
anyone interested in doing Grapevine service work. Sponsors,
this is great service work for both new and experienced
sponsees!
We would like to
encourage all the AA groups in District 1 to consider having a
Grapevine meeting once a week or so. It's simple. Read a story
from the monthly magazine or a "Best of the Grapevine" - volumes
1, 2 or 3. Share how you can relate to it. It's a great way to
spice up a meeting and get different stories from all over the
world. They make good subject matter. All are informative, some
are tragic, and some are even funny. I've never been to a boring
Grapevine meeting.
SAVE THE GRAPEVINE!
As
it says on the aagrapevine.org website, "The AA Grapevine is
the international journal of Alcoholics Anonymous. Written,
edited, illustrated, and read by AA members and others
interested in the AA program of recovery from alcoholism, the
Grapevine is a lifeline linking one alcoholic to another. [...]
[...] Founded in 1944, the Grapevine does not receive group
contributions, but is supported entirely through magazine
subscription sales and additional income derived from the sale
of Grapevine items.
Unfortunately, the Grapevine
is now in dire straits, being over $242,000
in the red and in danger of shutting down print and going
entirely digital. That means many people who are in any
kind of institution - jails, prisons and rehabs - and don't have
computer access won't be able to read the wonderful stories we
all can relate to.
Here are some suggestions
to help increase the sales of the magazine:
- Have a Grapevine meeting where you read a story
and share on it.
- Buy a subscription for your sponsee - or
sponsor!
- The group can give them as gifts to anniversary
celebrants.
- How about a subscription as a Christmas or
birthday gift?
- Send them to your AA friends who have moved
away.
If a group wishes to
contribute, send what you can (over your prudent reserve) to:

SURVEY
I would like to send out
thanks to everyone who participated in the survey. Special
thanks goes to Jen C. and Susan B. for their tireless efforts in
gathering all the surveys and sending the data to the Area
Grapevine Chairman. They really did a great job.
The GSO
meeting in New York will be in late April to May 7th, which is
when all the Delegates meet. A week or two after that meeting
has ended, they will announce the results of the survey.
RECYCLE YOUR GRAPEVINES!
Also, a
huge thank you to all the groups that are
participating in "Recycle Your Grapevines", with a special
mention to the GOYA Group.
We need all the old Grapevine
magazines we can get. If they're around a treatment center,
someone will read it and possibly hit home with a story they can
relate to. Many of these places don't have the magazine within
their budget and an old one is better than nothing.
You
can give them to your Intergroup Rep to take to the monthly
Intergroup meeting, drop them off at Central Office, or give
them to a member of the Grapevine Committee.
